Accessibility
People often look for disaster help on old phones and weak connections. We build this site to work for them.

Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on every page.
What we’ve done
- The help pages are text first, load quickly on slow connections and stay readable offline once you’ve opened them.
- Every page works with a keyboard, and every form field has a written label and plain error messages.
- Text and buttons meet AA color contrast in both light and dark mode.
- The landscape animations are decorative, hidden from screen readers and turned off when your device asks for reduced motion or data saving.
- The Get help page is also available en español.
- We write in plain language and keep the help pages free of jargon.
What we know needs work
- The county map on the Resources page works with a mouse or touch only. The county list next to it does the same job with a keyboard or screen reader.
- Some government sites we link to are available in English only.
